Warrantless Wiretapping, Breaking “News”   1 comment

ABC News is reporting that the NSA wiretap program has been misused.  Also at Arstechnica.  Which isn’t exactly unexpected.

Despite pledges by President George W. Bush and American intelligence officials to the contrary, hundreds of US citizens overseas have been eavesdropped on as they called friends and family back home, according to two former military intercept operators who worked at the giant National Security Agency (NSA) center in Fort Gordon, Georgia.

And in other news, a National Research Council report concludes, among other things, that data mining projects (such as those undoubtedly used by the NSA in this program, similar to the DHS ADVISE program that was disbanded) don’t work… pretty much for all the reasons I’ve already discussed here on this blog.

Can we all agree now that this is a stupid idea, stop doing it, and move on?

  1. I like to keep piling up as much stoopid data as possible just so they have to sift through it all…
