Topology is a fascinating branch of mathematics, but you have to possess a particularly… bent way of thinking about space in order to get it easily. Found via a post at Chu-Carroll’s blog, a link to a blog post detailing how to crochet yourself a hyperbolic space model. This is just brilliant, and if you teach basic geometry you might want to get yourself one of these so that you can quite quickly demonstrate to your students that yes, Virginia, sometimes parallel lines can intersect…

And some triangles have three angles that don’t add up to 180 degrees…
